Reduce, reuse, recycle

The pressure on the world's resources through our purchase of consumer goods is a challenge for the environment. There is a great need for us to reduce our footprint on nature, among other things through more recycling and less consumption.

Better damage management

Topdanmark handles many damages annually – damages of cars, buildings, furniture, and IT equipment. In these clams handling we either pay a sum of money for the purchase of a new item or pay for repairs. Here we would always rather repair a damage than pay a cash compensation for a new item. There are several reasons for this.

Through repair and recycling, we can put less strain on the environment in our handling of damage.
For example, we always try to repair car windows and bumpers after a damage. The same goes for computers, phones, and tablets. We do this because it is better for nature to save resources by repairing than to replace a product with a whole new one. It is also cheaper to repair an item than to have to pay cash compensation.

Facts

In 2023, 63% of damaged IT-equipment was repaired instead of cash compensated.

However, the customer does not always want to have their phone repaired, for example, as they will have to do without their device for a few days. Therefore, some customers choose the cash compensation over the repair. To meet that challenge, we have initiated a pilot project where we ask our customers to return their smartphone, when they have received at cash compensation. Topdanmark is then able to resell the phone either for repair and resell or to sell the spare parts for reuse in other products.

In our work with circular economy, we work on the basis of Sustainable Development Goal 12.5. By 2030, waste generation must be significantly reduced through prevention, reduction, recycling and recycling.
