CO2 neutral by 2030

We support the goal of limiting climate change. The more unpredictable and extreme weather also has implications for our own business. Therefore, in 2019, we have defined an ambitious goal of being CO2-neutral by 2030, in terms of the operation of our buildings, company transport and air transport.

We support the goal of limiting climate change. The more unpredictable and extreme weather also has implications for our own business. Therefore, in 2019, we have defined an ambitious goal of being CO2-neutral by 2030, in terms of the operation of our buildings, company transport and air transport.

CO2 reduction in operation

We work actively to reduce our emissions from natural gas consumption, district heating and electricity consumption. Thus, we have laid out a step-by-step plan for reducing CO2 in the operation of buildings. This includes, among other things, phasing out natural gas, concrete optimisation measures and switching to low-emmission power sources.

To achieve our wish to become CO2 neutral by 2030, we must start by reducing our emissions significantly. We cannot avoid having to buy relevant climate compensation to reach our goal, but we believe that reduction by far is the best solution - both for the climate and for business.

Solar panels on the roof

We have been at the forefront of development and our own goal of CO2 neutrality, and in 2012 we installed the largest roof-based photovoltaic system in the Nordic region. Back then, it consisted of 3,042 solar panels with a capacity of 0.75 mWh. In 2015, the plant was expanded, and today we have 5,928 panels and with a capacity of almost 1.5 mWh. In addition, we also have a photovoltaic system at our office in Viby with 432 solar panels.

24% of our electricity is produced by our own solar cells

Company driving

However, our goal of CO2-neutrality also requires that we reduce our driving in company cars. Here, we act by encouraging digital forms of collaboration. To support this, we have our hybrid workplace where work from home several days a week is normal procedure for most the employees. Furthermore, Topdanmark urges employees to chose electric cars when purchasing a company car, as well as outphasing hybrid cars of any kind.

It is more difficult to reduce CO2 emissions in relation to company driving in privately owned cars, as Topdanmark has little influence on the choice of private cars. However, Topdanmark urges employees to car pool to when commuting to and from work, and insist on car pooling to and from external meetings/offices.

Reduction of air travel

One of the major climate sinners is air travel, and thus our ambition for CO2 neutrality also covers Topdanmark's air travel. A large part of our flights is made by external IT developers, who are employed by Topdanmark for various projects. In addition, there are flights associated with investor meetings, international business meetings, and participation in conferences. Here, we will, to a greater extent, recommend digital international meetings.

Moreover, it has been decided that the annual AGM at Topdanmark will solely be held digitally.

Through our efforts with CO2 neutrality, we work with Sustainable Development Goal 13.1 Resilience and adaptability to climate-related risks and natural disasters in all countries must be strengthened.
